Description

The NeuroBase product line consists of two different basal media for cultivation of different types of neuronal cells. The product line is complemented by two chemically-defined additives, NCS21- and N2-supplement.

NeuroBase A is a specialized basal medium formulated to boost growth of postnatal and adult brain neurons. Unlike traditional methods that rely on supportive astrocyte feeder cells, NeuroBase A allows feeder-independent cultivation of these mature neurons and neuronal tumor cell lines. This provides a more controlled environment for investigating the unique properties and functions of adult neuronal cells.

Key Features:

  • Especially for Adult Brain Neurons and Tumor Cell Lines: NeuroBase A is specifically formulated to meet the specific needs of adult brain neurons and neuronal tumor cell lines, promoting their maintenance and maturation in culture.
  • Independent Growth: By eliminating the requirement for an astrocyte feeder layer, NeuroBase A simplifies the culturing process and allows to focus on the intrinsic properties of adult neurons.
  • Neurotransmitter-free: NeuroBase A is formulated without glutamate and aspartate. This unique feature enables investigating the specific roles of neurotransmitters in adult brain function and signaling pathways.
  • Versatility in Supplementation: NeuroBase A can be further supplemented with various additives depending on the specific research needs. Compatible supplements include:
    • NCS21: A widely used serum-free supplement providing a defined and consistent growth environment.
    • N2: A serum-free, chemically defined supplement based on Bottenstein’s N2 formulation
    • Serum: While less defined, some researchers may prefer using fetal bovine serum (FBS) or other types of serum for specific applications.
